Parque Nacional Julio Enrique Monagas Bayamón, PR

Located in “The City of the Traffic Jams” – as some are prone to call the municipality of Bayamón – yet surrounded by nature, the Julio Enrique Monagas National Park offers a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of daily city life.

Named after the father of the Olympic Movement in Puerto Rico, the park features ample space for recreational activities such as horseback riding, rock climbing, and bicycling. Its trails offer a convenient way to experience examples of karst formations typically found in the northwestern region of the island; while an observation tower allows visitors to enjoy views into the surrounding urban landscape from a privileged vantage point. Several playground and picnic areas are a welcome addition for visiting families, and the Santa Ana Environmental Center – which offers educational and interpretive activities for the young ones – rounds out the group experience.

Nature lovers and sports enthusiasts alike should not miss out on the variety of opportunities provided by this urban national park.
