Playa Sucia Cabo Rojo, PR

The southwestern municipality of Cabo Rojo is perhaps best known for its myriad of beaches – among the most popular in the entire island – yet none are as enchanting and pristine as Playa Sucia or “Dirty Beach”.

The name makes reference to the kelp that washes up on its shore during the year – but don’t let it fool you – the waters at Playa Sucia, also known as “La Playuela”, are crystal clear and its sands are as white as they are soft.

Playa Sucia’s privileged location within the Cabo Rojo National Wildlife Refuge guarantees a relaxing experience close to nature. You will find yourself surrounded by unmatched views into the Caribbean Sea, with its alternating deep and aquamarine blues, as well as to the nearby Cabo Rojo Salt Flats or “Las Salinas”.

To the right, a path leads up to Los Morrillos Lighthouse, which offers magnificent views out into the water from atop an impressive cliff – all just a few steps away from the beach.

While others flock to more convenient and popular spots in Cabo Rojo, drive off the beaten path to the tranquil piece of paradise that is Playa Sucia, and escape all modern intrusions.
