Description:

Located in the city of Guaynabo, the Puerto Rican Sports Museum is a modern facility that celebrates the island’s sporting history and honors some of its most beloved athletes.

The museum is spread across several halls, each one highlighting a particular sport or competition. These halls tell the tales of Puerto Rico’s most famous atheletes using audiovisual galleries, photos, and other memorabilia. Also featured are dozens of life-like statues of such luminaries as boxing champion, Wilfredo Gómez, and baseball greats, Roberto Clemente and Orlando Cepeda.

The extensive halls dedicated to the sport of baseball are located on the building’s first floor. Here you will learn about the Caribbean World Series, the island’s Winter League, and the storied careers of the numerous Puerto Rican players who have lived their dreams in the Major Leagues.

A mural by local artist Carmelo Sobrino, named the ‘Horizonte Deportivo’ or ‘Sports Horizon,’ leads visitors upstairs to the next exhibitions.

On the second floor you will find displays of individual and team achievements in international competitions, as well as the boxing hall, which celebrates Puerto Rico’s storied history of pugilism. The basketball hall sports replica hardwood floors and chronicles the national team’s successes throughout the years.

As an evolving museum, the Museo del Deporte de Puerto Rico hopes to continue chronicling the achievements of current and future generations of Puerto Rican athletes.
