Description: Located in the municipality of Lajas on the southwestern coast of Puerto Rico, La Parguera is a small fishing town and well-known vacation spot for tourists and locals alike. A multitude of boats, yachts and other watercraft assemble along the piers and set out towards nearby cays where visitors can wallow in shallow waters. The area surrounding this harbor encompasses La Parguera Nature Reserve, administered by the island’s Department of Natural Resources. The mangrove forests and estuaries within the reserve make it an optimal location for kayaking through its canals or simply observing local wildlife in its natural habitat. One of the island’s precious bioluminescent bays is also a popular attraction. Coral reefs are abundant off the coast of La Parguera, attracting snorkelers and scuba divers ready to take the plunge into the underwater wonderland of sea creatures. For those less inclined to take to the sea, La Parguera provides ample opportunities for inland distraction. The village is famous for its bars and restaurants serving freshly caught seafood. Plentiful inns and guesthouses also make it a perfect spot for a weekend getaway or an overnight stay. |
