Description:

The northwestern municipality of Moca is renowned for its mastery of the centuries-old tradition of bobbin lace weaving. Nowhere is this method more celebrated than in el Museo del Mundillo, a non-profit entity dedicated to preserving the history of this rich art form.

The mundillo arrived as part of the Spanish colonization of the island and became synonymous with privileged society. The complex and delicate nature of these hand-made embroideries made them a desirable commodity, acquired by merchants throughout the island.

The museum now exhibits various of these historical pieces alongside more contemporary creations. It also offers bobbin lace courses for those interested in learning the time-honored tradition of the mundillo, thereby helping to conserve this culturally significant craft.
