Description: Exit down Fortaleza Street to reach the Teatro Tapia. The first stone for this theater was placed in September 21st, 1824, making it one of the oldest free-standing stages still hosting performances in the United States. Named after a celebrated Puerto Rican dramatist, the theater quickly became one of the city’s cultural centers. Former mayor Felisa Rincon’s efforts to save the theater in the 1940’s where crucial to its survival as a venue for San Juan’s cultural events. |
