Description: Conveniently located between El Condado and Old San Juan, two of the municipality’s busiest tourist centers, the area known as El Escambrón attracts plenty of beach-goers and fitness-types that come to enjoy the park’s facilities and beautiful setting. El Escambrón has historically been a popular gathering place for a dip in the surf or for catching some rays, particularly because of it’s impressive views of the Capitolio and the San Cristobal Fortress in Old San Juan. El Parque del Tercer Milenio located next to the beach, encompasses several walking trails, as well as an elliptical track used regularly by bicyclists and joggers. Other trails lead visitors to noteworthy sights like the Batería del Escambrón. Located in the northeastern corner of the park, this artillery fortification or battery was used to defend the island against aggressors in centuries past. A smaller and more tranquil beach lays nearby, the perfect spot for children or for those wanting to step away from the crowds, while an elevated walkway to the south connects with the nearby Parque Luis Muñoz Rivera.
