Description:

In the municipality of Trujillo Alto stands the Puente Histórico de Trujillo Alto. Towering some 70 feet above Río Grande de Loíza, Puerto Rico’s largest river by volume, it is one of the few remaining types of steel platforms left in the island. The U.S. Army built the structure in 1939 and was the main road leading to the town for nearly fifty years, before being replaced by the present, modern bridge. The lattice framework was recently refurbished and the 102 meter long by 7 meter wide walkway was opened to the public as part of the Paseo de Bicentenario, a plaza commemorating the 200 years since the foundation of Trujillo Alto.
