Description:

The picturesque town of Yauco is home to some of the best preserved examples of early 20th century architecture on the island. El Centro de Arte Alejandro Franceschi is one such treasure.

Located on the corner of Betances and 25 De Julio Streets, this house was commissioned in 1907 by Don Alejandro Franceschi, of Corsican heritage and one of the wealthiest men in town.

French architect Fernando Troublard designed the home with two entrances, one on each street, and a veranda with ionic columns for the facade.

The interiors were decorated with paintings from polish artist H. Shoutka and murals from Puerto Rican artist Roberto Ríos.

Casa Franceschi, also known as Casa Fleming in honor of the succeeding owner, was purchased by the municipal government in 1993 and is maintained to this day as part of the city’s grand heritage.
